Weekly Theatre News Round Up - 13-20 February

The news that has had theatre land talking this week includes


New casting announced for The Play That Goes Wrong



New casting has been announced for The Play That Goes Wrong as the show extends booking through to April 2024, with many of the new cast members making their west end debuts (or should that be Day-boos)

From 4 April, the role of Chris will be played by Daniel Cech-Lucas, with Rolan Bell as Robert, Keith Ramsey as Dennis, Lucy Doyle as Sandra, Luke Dayhill as Jonathan, Gavin Dunn as Trevor, Iona Fraser as Annie and Ross Virgo as Max.

They will be joined by understudies, or as mischief calls them Thunderstudies, Harry Bradley, Elliot Goodhill, Rosie Meek, Hisham Abdel Razek and Tommi Vicky.

The Sound of Music to be revived

It has been announced that the sound of music is set to be revived at the Chichester Festival Theatre, running 10 July to 3 September.

The show will be lead by Gina Beck as Maria, with further casting to be revealed

New casting announced for Les Miserables

New casting has been announced for Les Miserables, with Dean Chisnall returning to pay the role of Jean Valjean from 28 February and 25 March.

From March 27, the role of Jean Valjean will be played by Josh Piterman, with Stewart Clarke as Javert, Lucie Jones as Fantine, Claire Machin as Madame Thénardier and Harry Chandler as Enjolras.

They join Gerald Carey as Thenardier, Nathania Ong as Eponine, Lulu Mae Pears as Cosette and Robert Tripolino as Marius

The company is completed by Hazel Baldwin, Brad Barnley, Emma Barr, Will Barratt, Cameron Burt, Natalie Chua, Matthew Dale, Matt Dempsey, Bryony Duncan, Louis Emmanuel, Sophie-May Feek, Melad Hamidi, Harry Jack, Christopher Jacobsen, Will Jennings, Benjamin Karran, Yazmin King, Bart Lambert, Sarah Lark, Adam Robert Lewis, Georgie Lovatt, Ellie Ann Lowe, Donald Craig Manuel, Jodie Nolan, Sam Peggs, Jo Stephenson, Phoebe Williams and Ollie Wray.

Jesus Christ Superstar to tour the UK

It has been announced that Jesus Christ Superstar will set out on a UK Tour later this year

The tour will begin in Manchester on 11 September 2023 before visiting Newcastle, Hull, Aberdeen, Glasgow, Liverpool, Milton Keynes, Plymouth, Wolverhampton, Bradford, Nottingham, Ipswich, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Leicester, Stoke, Bristol, Crawley, Southampton, Norwich, Eastbourne, Birmingham, Oxford, Wimbledon, Woking, Sunderland, Canterbury, Sheffield, Llandudno, Torquay, Dartford, Cheltenham and Blackpool.

Further touring dates and casting is to be revealed.

Martin Allanson will play J Bruce Ismay, with Valda Akins as Ida Straus, Graham Bickley as Captain Edward Smith, Sam Brown as Frederick Fleet, James Darch as Edgar Beane, David Delve as Isidor Straus, Catherine Digges as head maid, Adam Filipe as Frederick Barrett, Emily George as Kate Murphy, Luke Harley as Andrew Latimer, Emma Harrold as Lady Caroline Neville, Alastair Hill as Harold Bride, Abi Hudson as Maid, Barnaby Hughes as Herbert Pitman/Henry Etches, Paul Kemble as Joseph Boxhall, Niamh Long as Kate Mullins, Matthew McDonald as Charles Clarke, Ian McLarnon as Thomas Andrews, Danny Michaels as Joseph Bell, Chris Nevin as Jim Farrell, Jack North as Charles Lightoller, Joseph Peacock as Bellboy/Wallace Hartley, Billy Robert as William McMaster Murdoch, Bree Smith as Alice Beane and Lucie-Mae Sumner as Kate McGowan
