Weekly Theatre News Round Up - January 4-10

The news that has had theatre land talking this week includes


Peter Pan Goes Wrong to open on Broadway


It has been announced that Mischief Theatre hit ‘Peter Pan Goes Wrong’ will make its broadway debut (or should that be dayboo) this year with a sixteen and a half week run from March 17.

The original cast members, Henry Lewis, Henry Shields, Nancy Zamit, Chris Leask, Greg Tannahill, Ellie Morris and Charlie Russell will appear in the show.

Theatre names among those awarded in the New Years honours list

Many theatre names are among those awarded in this year’s New Years honours list, the first given by King Charles III

Theatre producer Sonia Friedman, composer George Fenton, Claire Whitaker of the Culture Recovery fund and Peter Kyle, former chair of the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust have all been awarded CBE’s.

Julian Bird, former chief executive of the Society of London Theatre and Uk Theatre is made OBE along with Tim Eyles, chair of the Royal Society of Arts and Philip Edgar-Jones, Sky Arts director.

David Harewood, currently staring in Best of Enemies and Stephen Graham are also both made OBE’s.

Cast announced for 2023 tour of Mamma Mia!

Casting has been announced for this years tour of Mamma Mia!

Sara Poyzer will play Donna, with Jess Michelmore as Sophie, Nicky Swift as Rosie and alternate Donna, Sarah Earnshaw as Tanya, Richard Standing as Sam, Neal Craig as Harry and Phil Corbitt as Bill. Christopher Foley will play Sky, alongside Tanisha Butterfield as Ali, Freya Humberstone as Lisa, Jaden Oshenye as Pepper, Archie Flynn as Eddie and Andrew Bateup as Father Alexander.

The cast is completed by Clàudia Bahrani, Alice Baker, Peter Camilleri, Henryk Firth, Andrew Gallo, Claire Greenway, Ashleigh Harvey, Ashleigh Jones, Matt Kennedy, Robert Knight, Grace May, Hollie Nelson, Ashley Rowe, Nathen Scott, Marissa Sims and Lucy Walsham.

Cast for UK Premiere of Head over Heels announced

Casting has been announced for the UK Premiere of Head over heels, which runs at the Hope Mill Theatre 26 January to 4 March.

Luke Bayer will play Musidorus with Iz Hesketh as Pythio, Jenny O’Leary as Pamela, Daniel Page as Dametas, Maiya Quansah-Breed as Philoclea, Khadija Sallet as Mopsa, Julie Stark as Gynecia and Fed Zanni as Basilius. Alison Driver, Samuel Routley, Marina Tavolieri and Timo Tatzber will complete the ensemble.

Casting for The beekeeper of Aleppo announced

Casting has been announced for the World premiere of the stage adaptation of the Beekeeper of Aleppo which embarks on tour from next month

The cast includes Alfred Clay as Nuri, Roxi Faraday as Afra, Joseph Long as Mustafa, Aram Mardourian as Nadim, Fotakis, Ali and others, Daphne Kouma as immigration officer, Dr Faruk, Dahab and others, Nadia Williams as Angeliki, Lucy Fisher and Others and Elham Mahyoub as Mohammed and Sami. Fans Xenofós and Lily Demier complete the cast as swings.
